The Citizens' initiative against a container transshipment port in Timbaki was created in the authumn 2006, as a non profit initiative of Greek and foreign people, living here in Crete or abroad, who are against this project. Our goal is to prove that this project would be a cultural, ecological and economical desaster for the whole region. A few months later, we gathered our efforts with another recently created initiative, the Movement of Citizen of the Messara for the Environment (KPMP), which more widely targets all the environmental problems of the area. The Movement of Citizen of the Messara for the Environment is member of the Ecological Society of Heraklion (Ecocrete).
